ABOUT THE PLAY

After the motifs from Georgian folklore

Being one of the most famous stories from Georgian folklore, this wonderful story has very deep roots. Grandparents have been telling the tale of the flea and the ant to their grandchildren for centuries and almost every Georgian knows it by heart. Everybody needs a friend – humans, animals and birds, even the tiny creatures want to have devoted friends by their side.

This tale tells us a story of a flea, which almost sacrifices himself to save a friend. The ant falls into the river; he cannot swim and will drown unless the flea rescues him. The devoted friend tries to help – he needs a rope to take the ant out of the water, that is why he asks help from a pig, an oak, a crow, a hen, a pit, a mouse, a cat and a cow. All of them ask for something in exchange for their help. The tiny flea is exhausted, but is not giving up and finally his efforts are rewarded – he rescues the ant and unlike other characters, he does everything unselfishly.

True friendship is a precious gift which is given only to those who have a kind heart and a pure soul.
